Repeat of 2009 for
Sebastian Karate
 at the 2010 US Open

“Yes we can!” said the students of the small karate school at the Sebastian Gym. With hard work and a lot of dedication, they did it again this year at the 2010 ISKA World Martial Arts Championship - US Open held at Disney in Orlando on July 9th & 10th. At last years 2009 US Open the school’s Dragon’s Den students ageing from 12 to 73 took home 30 awards. This year in the 2010 US Open, the Den took home 41. That’s right, 41 awards earned by this small and older group of martial artists. Okay, a few younger ones, but only 5 of them are under the age of 35. The awards came in Traditional Forms, Traditional Weapons, Continuous Fighting, Point Fighting and Power Wood Breaking. Every student of Sebastian Karate that entered the tournament this year placed, no one went home empty handed. Not too bad for a small school at one of the world’s largest martial arts tournament. John Clare, Skyler Conlon, Alex DeFosses, Lillian DeFosses, Peter A. DeFosses, Brandon Evans, Joseph Farmer, Debra Gage, Raymond Gage, Lisa Gay, Nanci Gold, Denise Green, Johnny Green, Alyssa Green, Tracey LiMato, Richard LiMato, Ramiro Magana, Gretchen Nelson, Keith Nelson, Trevor Rich, Connie Rouer, Antonio Ruiz, Richard Weisman.

 2011 US Open World Karate
Championship

Sebastian Karate students gave their all at the U.S. Open World Martial Arts Championship in Orlando, Florida on July 1 and 2.  The school was recognized for having one of the largest groups competing, 40 Students, which is about half of the school’s students.  Students competed in Forms, Weapons, Breaking and Sparring walking away with 84 trophies.

2011 Gator Nationals

Sebastian Karate participated in the Gator Nationals World Karate Championships in Daytona Beach on
 May 13 and 14.

The students ranging in age from 6 to 62 took home 13 first place, nine second place, four third place and four finalists for a total of 30 trophies.

The school planned on using the Gator National as a warm-up for the U.S. Open World Martial Arts Tournament in Orlando in July but instead took home a record number of trophies causing other competitors to mistake their table for the trophy claiming area.

Even more important than the time, effort and accomplishments of the students is the fact that our team supports one another 100 percent and we stick together like a family at each and every tournament. That's how we roll!
